In a world where Craigslist is getting grosser by the day, it’s hard to forget about BackPage.com, a site that used to be a physical presence on the back page of the Village Voice (which is where it gets its name).
Basically, BackPage.com was Craigslist before Craigslist was Craigslist, but with more subpoenas and cops.
If you’re still curious about using BackPage.com for personals dating, let’s take a look at why we think this site should NEVER be used for anything like meeting women.
Our Review of BackPage.com Reveals Why They Didn’t Make It Into Our Top 5 Sites for Adult Personals Dating
We didn’t expect much out of BackPage.com. It’s basically styled a lot like Craigslist, but it has a lot more categories, and a lot less junk. Part of the reason for that is that every advertiser has to give their credit card information before they sign up, so have fun with that if you ever want to run an ad!
BackPage.com has somewhat gotten out of the personals game in recent years, because most of the lawsuits that have surrounded it are about child prostitution, yikes!
Even if you’re not into things that could get you 20 to life (and we’re assuming you’re not, you’re welcome for the benefit of the doubt), there are still a lot of reasons not to use BackPage.com.
We had terrible luck here.
Yes, we probably should have called that. Whatever. We still gave it as good a shot as we could, because we wanted to make sure that we were being fair and unbalanced.
Our Unbiased Results After Using BackPage.com For Three Months
Contacting 450 women wasn’t as easy on BackPage.com as it was on a lot of other websites because of the design.
However, we made it work, and were able to send out a contact request every day to a different woman on BackPage.com for the period of three months, waiting for replies.
Boy, were we waiting.
We only got back 31 responses at all, which is pretty pathetic. We set up all of ONE date, and she didn’t even show!
In other words, BackPage.com is absolutely useless for online dating, adult personals, or even contacting anyone. Maybe if you have an old couch you want to sell you might be more interested, but good luck getting anyone to call you back. It would be kind of sad if the used couch people were a lot more reliable than the personals people.
So Was BackPage.com Worth Your Time At All, Or Was BackPage.com A Scam?
While we don’t recommend using BackPage.com for personals at ALL, we did find it fun to try and figure out which personals were actually looking for dates and which ones were just reading odd found poetry.
For example, here’s an ad:
“The man who responds to this ad will be the gentleman. He will be expected to clothe me. Contact for details.”
Uh. We’d rather not.
There are a lot of ads like that, so if you ever do see the need to venture to a more generalized personals site, this should probably not be the one you break your rule to explore.
Our Verdict: Should You Use BackPage.com For Adult Personals?
There’s no reason you should ever use BackPage.com for personals. You probably shouldn’t even use it to sell your old TV, but we won’t blame you if you give that a try.
Instead, check out EroticAds, which is at least full of personals ads that you’ll WANT to respond to!
